Time Warner Cable – The Saga Begins

by Toolman on Aug.11, 2011, under Articles, Tips

In May I scheduled a tech to come out and see about my RoadRunner Internet here in Winston Salem, NC.
My speeds were off and line quality really horrible with high packet loss. In other words, my internet sucked.

Someone came out, looked around, tested some stuff and left. I was scheduled to get a new drop installed. This is the second new drop since the new drop when we first got Roadrunner over 2 years ago.

Noah came out and installed our new line. Noah has to be the most competent and genuinely caring TWC employee I have met here. So many people show up to work to “get a paycheck”, Noah seems like one of the few that is good at what he does, and is willing to do what it takes to resolve a problem that is in his realm.

As an experienced supervisor, Noah is the type of worker that is rare and hard to find. A great representative of his company, unfortunately for Time Warner Cable I met a dozen incompetents before I met him. (a typical ratio I think from my years in manufacturing)

With a new drop line, and a new modem, the problem continues….. And of course, another month has gone by.

Road Runner Internet, The BBB, And Me

by Toolman on Aug.10, 2011, under Articles, Tips

Life has been, well, life this year. The beauty of internet marketing, if things are set up right, certain things will run automatically.

This year has been busy with health issues for myself and family that have kept me occupied.

This posting is not intended to belittle the workers of  Time Warner Cable here in Winston Salem, NC.

When I say the giraffes neck is long, that is not a judgement or statement about the giraffe it is only a description of the giraffe. I will try and remove myself from this and just describe my experience, I will let you be the judge of whether it is good, bad, or indifferent.

I have had to put so much work and effort into not only getting my internet working properly here in Winston Salem, NC, but it has become a battle. Since I have had to document so much to prove to Time Warner Cable that I am not insane and know how to operate a computer I will be getting more use from my notes by sharing them with all who find this with a Google or Yahoo search.

My current problem began in April, since it was normal for my service to be crappy for a few days and clear up, it was around May when I requested someone come out and work on my issue.

We have had intermittent issues for over 2 years now, this will explain my last nightmare here in Winston Salem, NC with Time Warner Cable over their Road Runner Internet Service.

My Road Runner Internet Speeds in Winston Salem, NC

This is my starting point with this round.

Yes I have had dial-up service that out-performed this! (Not a judgement, just a description)

And the saga begins……

Are You Sure of Your Promotions?

by Toolman on Mar.03, 2010, under Tips

While surfing the other day I spotted a banner for a product that got my attention. Good job! Banner ads may normally have a small click through rate, but some are more productive than others. This one did things right.

  1. The banner got my attention
  2. It informed me or tweaked my interest enough that I wanted to know more, so I clicked.

That is where the banner ad campaign failed completely though.

When I clicked on the banner, I was sent to a page that said, “BannerKeyring Error: no banner on this keyring was viewed before clickthrough.” Which isn’t correct because I did see the banner…

This isn’t the only example I have….
I have seen sites in traffic exchanges that didn’t show because someone misspelled a word in the URL. I have seen people promote their login page. Typos in classified ads, text ads, etc. These take credits or money to have your ad or site seen, it cost just as much to send people to an error page as it does to your site, so why not be sure you send them to your site.

The main point being, check your ads! It is that simple, check behind yourself. Whether you are just starting online marketing or have been doing it 10 years or more, we all are human and make typos and mistakes. Wasted ad credits and money can be saved simply by taking the time to check an ad after posting it.

I keep a text file that I use constantly while promoting. It has all my current promotions, checked and verified to be correct. I copy and paste my promotions. This helps cut down on typos, but I STILL CHECK behind myself.

Happy Marketing!
