Are You Sure of Your Promotions?
by Toolman on Mar.03, 2010, under Tips
While surfing the other day I spotted a banner for a product that got my attention. Good job! Banner ads may normally have a small click through rate, but some are more productive than others. This one did things right.
- The banner got my attention
- It informed me or tweaked my interest enough that I wanted to know more, so I clicked.
That is where the banner ad campaign failed completely though.
When I clicked on the banner, I was sent to a page that said, “BannerKeyring Error: no banner on this keyring was viewed before clickthrough.” Which isn’t correct because I did see the banner…
This isn’t the only example I have….
I have seen sites in traffic exchanges that didn’t show because someone misspelled a word in the URL. I have seen people promote their login page. Typos in classified ads, text ads, etc. These take credits or money to have your ad or site seen, it cost just as much to send people to an error page as it does to your site, so why not be sure you send them to your site.
The main point being, check your ads! It is that simple, check behind yourself. Whether you are just starting online marketing or have been doing it 10 years or more, we all are human and make typos and mistakes. Wasted ad credits and money can be saved simply by taking the time to check an ad after posting it.
I keep a text file that I use constantly while promoting. It has all my current promotions, checked and verified to be correct. I copy and paste my promotions. This helps cut down on typos, but I STILL CHECK behind myself.
Happy Marketing!
